Huge Success for UAA Indigenous TID Day

21 Oct 2017 by ccasport

ANOTHER important day on the Central Coast Academy of Sport growing sporting calendar with the second staging of the Underwriting Agencies Australia (UAA) Indigenous Talent ID Day held at Terrigal’s Scholastic Stadium. Six sports were targeted with AFL, Basketball, Golf, Netball, Touch Football and University of Newcastle Sports Science personnel testing for speed, explosive strength, agility, motor coordination and balance, all on site to offer the CCAS expert assistance.

Andrew McNee the Central Coast Academy of Sport Events Manager said of the Indigenous TID Day: “We have had a great response from the schools of the Central Coast and we have over one hundred (100) students here today looking to demonstrate their skills and talents across a multitude of sports. There is always great debate around talent ID, this is because you must be aware of talent potential, we are very mindful of looking at both of these aspects today. Students with unique skills and those with unique potential are being looked at via the ITID day, today we hope and aim to open the gates to sporting opportunities. The concept is proven and it’s great to be able to deliver such a significant event for our region and for those taking part”.

Michael Murphy the CEO of the major sponsor UAA said of the program. “The Central Coast Academy of Sport is well known for the delivery of professional events and today’s ITID day is no exception, it is an outstanding opportunity provided to Indigenous youth of the Central Coast. I take my hat off to the CCAS and to the fantastic support received by many of the local Indigenous Educators from many schools on the Coast. Finally, to Matt Sonter, the grandfather of indigenous youth development on the Coast, his support has again been very important in building this program from our humble beginnings this time last year. To have just over one hundred (100) students is simply unbelievable”.

Following the Indigenous TID Day the coaches will provide advice to the CCAS for the allocation of twenty fully funded scholarships thanks again to UAA for providing that level of support.
